Disney Plus’s Percy Jackson series finds its lead actor

Disney has cast the title role in the eagerly awaited Percy Jackson, the Olympians series. Walker Scobell of Netflix’s The Adam Project In the Disney Plus series, Riordan will portray the role of the 12-year old demigod. Rick Riordan wrote a blog posting on his website announcing this casting.

“Aside from being a rising star, Walker is also a super-fan of the books, having read everything through The Trials of Apollo,” wrote Riordan.

Previously, Logan Lerman portrayed the character in the film adaptation — much to the disappointment of fans. Percy was 12 years old in the book. The series will follow him through his growing up. According to the film adaptation, Percy grew up to 16 years. Riordan openedly discussed his dissatisfaction with the movie’s adaptation, in particular when it was about aging the characters.

This middle-grade series is a best-seller. It takes place in a world that believes all Greek myths. The story focuses on demigod children who are Greek goddesses and gods. They all go to Camp Half-Blood, a camp for the summer. Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were the focus of the first series. In the second series, elements from Roman mythology were incorporated into the story. A few spinoffs series also explored Norse and Egyptian mythology. Trials of Apollo is a sequel to Percy Jackson’s main series.

Riordan, unlike the movie adaptations will heavily participate in the Disney Plus adaptation. Jon Steinberg is directing the pilot episode. James Bobin will direct. This summer, filming in Vancouver will commence.
