Updated: MLB The Show 22 – Review In Progress
As the MLB lockout drags on, spring’s annual crack-of-the bat was put at risk. The league and players eventually reached an agreement. Although the season will not be completed, it was slightly delayed. The first pitch will be thrown in April 7, which is exactly one week as of the time this article was written. The MLB The Show Series by Sony usually arrives a few weeks before MLB Season starts. But this year, the installment will hit the streets on April 5, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Xbox One will also be on the streets on April 5th for Switch.
Just got the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions. I will update this story over the weekend and share my initial impressions from my time at the diamond. Sony claims that hitting, pitching and fielding have been improved and audio commentary has come from an entirely different team. Online cooperative play is also available. Players will see improvements in the core areas of the show, such as Franchise, Road to the Show and Diamond Dynasty.
My impressions are beginning with the PlayStation 5 edition. A short video will be the first. Shohei Ohtani gives more details about his career in baseball. After this, you can fReturning players or new players will receive rewards when they return for another season. These are the rewards I got:

After selecting your team, the main menu will open. Next, you can choose to go into a practice match to see which style of play suits you best. To get back to basics and determine which pitching or batting system you like, I suggest this step.
On the main menu is the new online cooperative mode, which allows players to compete 2v2 and 3v3. I will use this mode as my first play opportunity. The trailer shows you what this mode can offer.
Before you are able to view any content in Diamond Dynasty you must complete five missions. The game will give you a default crew to choose from. Here’s mine:

You will be facing the New York Yankees at the bottom of the 9th. With runners on the first and second bases, you are at the plate. To win the game, I was able to get the first pitch across the right field wall. Two cards were given to me as rewards: Vinny castilla (72) and Vinny Casilla (72).
The game comes with a 4-day preorder, which means that I could find my teammate quickly for my first collaborative game. Our lineup was vastly different. Each player selects a few cards from their collection to be used during the game. This allows you to have Legends that you didn’t earn by yourself. To have Joe Mauer (Fernado Tatis Jr.), Rickey Henderson and Rickey Henderson as our opponents, they must have had a few packs. Giancarlo Stanton is another jaw-dropping member of their roster.
Matchmaking works quickly. It put me in a team with my friend and I had to search for opponents. You and your fellow 2v2 player alternate in bats. When someone scores, the player who is not at bat becomes the baserunner. One player is responsible for fielding. This player also controls pitcher and catch for the entire innings. Other players field. To activate the bullpen, any player may enter the Pause menu. If you are fielding, your view is behind the pitcher until the ball is put in play – allowing for you to get a good look at the pitch locations (you just don’t see your teammate’s meters).
Our game was sluggish at times, although it wasn’t too bad. Our team managed to score 12 runs against their five. Two of their five hits were home runs. Our nine-inning game saw us leave the bases empty twice. The groundball was hit to the middle and was a missed scoring opportunity. Final score: 2-0 It was a hard fought battle but the final score was 2-0.
While the gameplay was very smooth, there wasn’t much I noticed that was different than last year. It is still quite a fun game. Each fielding animation was perfect. Player speeds on both the base paths as well as in the field were all right. The pitching and batting battles were as thrilling as ever. You can check the PCI of your fellow teammate and see how close they are to winning one.
Below is a video of one of my opened packs. Although I don’t yet have 90+ players, I do still own 4,500 studs of Big Dog packs, which allows me to possess one Diamond player, which is rare 90 overall, and base 85-plus. The card designs for this year are great, particularly those that tie to the Faces of the Franchise program. It ends in just 28 days. Faces of the Franchise features daily moments, Flashback missions and Legends, as well as final boss battles. You can get XP through standard games, collections, or exchanges.
At the conclusion of this program, you will get a Babe Ruth Card. The challenge asks you to complete a mini-season and do a few basic achievements like five hits.
Although the menus and play avenues for Diamond Dynasty are a little confusing at first, they offer many exciting ways to win rewards and to spend a lot of time.
One glance at some rosters revealed that they were all up to date. Carlos Marcus Stroman wears his Cubs pinstripes while Correa is playing with the Minnesota Twins. In order to be promoted from the minors, or signed out of the league like Seiya Sugimoto, rookies must play five innings. Keep this in mind as you wait for the MLB season to start Franchise mode and any other roster-based activity. Diamond Dynasty is the best option at the moment.
