Rivals Of Aether Sequel Give Series A Big Makeover, Coming In 2024
Rivals 2, the sequel to the pixelated platformer Rivals of Aether, will be available. Aether Studios is an independent development studio. Today’s trailer shows that the game will be real.
Rivals 2 leaps to 3D models. It is quite a visual shift from the 16-bit inspired original sprites. It’s stunning footage of the three Rivals battling it out, with no HUD. The Fiery Lion Zetterburn, Wrastor the Wind wielder, and Ranno the poisonous Frog Martial Artist Ranno make their returns and get plenty of screentime to show off their new looks.
New characters were not shown, however new mechanics were. Super Smash Bros. fans may feel at home with these new additions. As well as being grabs against them, shields will be added to protect the player. Also, “throws look cool,” says an FAQ answer for why they’ve been added to the game. The FAQ page contains more detailed questions and answers regarding changes to combat in Rivals 2.
Aether Studios says Rivals 2 will not be available until 2024. But, the studio plans to have a closed beta next year. Rivals 1 and 2 are currently available on Xbox One, Switch, or PC.
