Housemarque Is Developing A New Game, But It Isn’t Returnal 2

Housemarque, a contemporary arcade giant is the best. Resogun, Nex Machina and other arcade games were inspired by psychedelic shoot’em-ups. Returnal builds on the legacy of the developer by providing similar visuals, mechanics, and a Triple-A, 3D skin. This is despite the huge success of Sci-Fi Roguelike. Sony acquired Housemarque.  the studio is smartly broadening its horizons again. Housemarque has a new title in development, but it will not be Returnal 2.

An interview for an award-show show with VenturebeatThere are many outlets for this question. Ilari Kuittinen, managing director, Henry Krueger and Gregory Louden are asked questions about Housemarque’s future. “…In an age where the game industry is changing and the players are changing as well, what are your thoughts? [your] identity?”

Sony recently switched to live service, which is more multiplayer-centric than Housemarque will likely employ. The team has tried this method before, with only mixed results.

“We did our brief stint in multiplayer gaming because years ago it felt like everyone needed some sort of multi-player experience. It was a test we tried, but it didn’t work out as well. However, it is still very early. “We’ll be watching what happens.”

Kuittinen briefly suggested that Nex Machina might be an indication of what this new IP could be. Housemarque may be working on Returnal or another game of similar scope. We’ll see how they combine their arcade roots with modern-gen features.
