6 Great Games That Are Much More Than Meets The Eye

Never judge a book’s cover. That’s a great lesson in general, especially for video games, but even more so for a select batch of games that are far more than they appear on the surface. These titles, while many video games have narratives and other mechanical twists to them, go an extra mile to conceal their real natures to delight players. 

Games that challenge expectations are my favorite. However, they can sometimes be difficult to find or recommend to others. They may not be your first choice. If you don’t play visual novels, then Doki Doki Literature Club, for example, may pass you by even if the things it’s really going for would be up your alley. These games are difficult to present to skeptical friends and not reveal what really makes them stand out. These games can also be spoiler-ridden if you do not investigate them first. How do we discuss this? 

Here’s my solution. There will be two entries for each game: The Premise, and The Twist. The game’s premise describes what it appears to be. After all, simply popping up on this list indicates that something’s up, and that might be enough to spark your curiosity to give it a shot. 

The Twist, which will be obscured with spoiler tags, is the section for those wanting to know how the game changes. Though it won’t blatantly reveal every single thing that happens, it will provide a general overview of a game’s true form, if you will. However, you’ll still have to play it yourself to get the whole picture.
