11 Bit Studios Unveils First Gameplay For New Sci-Fi Adventure, The Alters

11 Bit Studios (developer of This War of Mine and Frostpunk) unveiled The Alters in the past year. This sci-fi story is about a man who must survive and get home after his space mission fails. In order to survive, the man must use both his own copy and other copies. 

11 Bit Studios today released a new video of The Alters, giving us our first look into its gameplay. The trailer highlights the fact that this is a survival third-person game. After Jan crashes-lands onto an uninhabitable planet facing a huge sun, the team claims that the story will be “driven by the life-defining decisions and exploring the different paths you could take”. 

The Alters game trailer is below. 

In this race against the clock, Jan has to harness Rapidium crystals from his locality in order to make many different versions of himself: Alters,” reads a release. In a mobile base that is constantly moving, teamwork and acquiring specialized knowledge are essential for survival. Selecting divergent paths for Jans to take during alteration allows them to acquire unique skill sets. The Jans are indispensable for many other tasks as well, such as cooking, creating tools for exploration on the surface, and gathering resources. 

11 Bit Studios claims that Alters are not just resources. They are also sentient, living beings, with emotions, concerns, goals and even existential questions about their purposes. 

In the release, it is stated: “Despite their disagreements, their goal collectively is to escape. Echoing Jan’s will to survive, I’ll do it myself.”

Alters will be released on consoles of the current generation and PC in 2024.
