Shredders is like a chilled-out SSX

Not getting a ton of snow this winter is a bummer, but we’ll always have video games to scratch the winter sports itch. ShreddersFoamPunch is releasing a new snowboarding game. It looks amazing and powdery.

There’s fluffy snow and more in Cool WIP, Polygon’s weekly roundup of eye-catching clips and screenshots of works in progress. To give you a sampling of the coolest projects, Polygon’s staff searches the Internet for new and interesting games.

In this week’s Cool WIP, we have two different town-builders, a 3D platformer where you zoom through a futuristic neon world, and the most delightful mushroom you’ll ever meet.

This new game of snowboarding lets you shred the gnar

2021’s indie skateboarding game craze continues into the new year, except with a slight twist: This game features snowboarding instead. ShreddersFoamPunch is a Belgian/Swedish design studio. This video shows a short clip of the trick in which the snowboarder climbs up and glides through a hole made by a wall. It looks like it’s a laid back, relaxed game. The developers claim that the game is smooth as ice. Shredders It will be launched sometime in 2022 on Xbox Series X.

The snow is reapplied on a charming city builder

Toukana Interactive launched its citybuilder. DorfromantikDevelopers recently released a revised version of this program that added snow. This city builder allows you to place hexagonal tiles and slowly create a serene landscape. Polygon featured it on its list of top games from 2021 and it looks like we’ll be getting a winterized version of the game. Its Steam page has more information.

You build your empire on top of an enormous beast.

Another city-builder is in our mix. This time though, you’ll be dealing with limited resources and space. This is the In Wandering VillageThe backbone of your game is a gigantic, roaming beast. Stray Fawn Studio published a TikTok displaying how far the game had come in just a year. It offers a rare look into what one year of development might look like. According to the Steam page, the game doesn’t have a release window yet.

This futuristic neon world will speed you along

It is tiresomeTakes the easy gate feature of games such as Solar AshOder The Pathless The game launches players into a neon-bright adventure. The Cyber Clan shared a demo version of the game in July. It is worth revisiting if you enjoy fast-paced platformers. More recent clip showsThe game is in progress, with gameplay showing one the cybernetic character gracefully flying through futuristic, glowing environments.

Your best mushroom friend

Scrolling down Alex Dixon’s Twitter feed reveals a curation of delightful, Miyazaki-esque game scenes. (One character featured on the feed even looks like it’s straight out of Howl’s Moving Castle.) Dixon uploaded a video clip that depicts a hilarious encounter between an individual and sneaky mushrooms character. The clip was taken from an unnamed, early-stage work-in-progress. However it looks fantastic for such a young project. You can follow Dixon’s work on their Twitter account.
