The Game Awards 2021: When they start, where to watch, and new premieres

The Game Awards 2021, the eighth edition of Geoff Keighley’s year-end showcase of big games both new and coming soon, begins Thursday, Dec. 9 with a pre-show at 7:30 p.m. EST/4:30 p.m. PST. The main event starts at 8 PM EST/5:30 PM PST and lasts for three hours.

“More than half” of this year’s show will be devoted to new game announcements, Keighley said in a podcast last week. What will be on the show? By that, Keighley said Wednesday on Reddit, he means “an announced game already that we showed first gameplay on.”

“We have a LOT of new game announcements tomorrow (I think more than 10),” Keighley said, “and some are really big/triple A level stuff.” Among some of the other trailers he’s seen, Keighley said one is a six-minute “extended premiere.”

Game Awards 2021 also will give hardware to the five nominated gamers in each of the 30 categories. Full list. The Game Awards 2021 will be the largest. Reggie Fils Aime (ex-Nintendo of America president) also returns the show. After a short, pandemic-related hiatus, Lorne Balfe is back leading the Game Awards Orchestra.
