Three Ways We Made Our Indie Game into the AAA-Sized Sandbox Adventure Bang-On Balls: Chronicles, out Now

So you’re looking at the art and title of our game and wondering what on earth is this, right? In a nutshell: Chronicles of the Bang-On BallsThis is an open world sandbox game that combines combat, character customization and collectathon scavenger hunts into one zany experience. Phew! That’s a lot. We know this. We continually hear from people who’ve played our game how surprised at just how much stuff there is to do here.

But we’re a team of ex-AAA developers who’ve worked on some really big and serious games in the past so we personally enjoy creating and playing games loaded with things to do. So here are three things we did to ensure everyone’s bouncy adventure in Bang-On balls: ChroniclesCan easily be turned into something that can last for more than 40 hours.

1. The world is a massive, highly destructible open-world map that’s loaded with secrets.

It is not intended to tell you how to play or even where to go. You can choose how you want to proceed with each of the maps. Our main menu itself is a map that you can play with all its secrets and minigames. The maps are filled with a lot of activities and we made sure to include variety in our designs.

Oh. And we also know breaking stuff is fun – pure and simple. The large sprawling areas are highly destructive. You’re a ball with the power to bounce, bash, and steamroll anything in your way – use it!

2. Take a solo trip or grab friends

Do not be fooled, the game is great for single-player. Although I’m sure that most people will agree with me, playing the game with friends has a different feel. This is why we ensured that Bang-on balls: ChroniclesSupports single player, split screen couch co-op for two players, as well as online co-op with up to four people.

3. Customize your character in a wide range of ways

The character customization aspect of the game is very important to us, and we are always excited about how items will carry over. You can customize your character by collecting themed items on each map. Other items have an effect that is not cosmetic. Weapons, shields, hats, masks, tattoos, boats. Around 400 customization items are available to customize your Bouncy Buddy. All of these items can be collected by playing the game.  There are no cosmetics planned, only DLC.

So that’s just some of what you can expect in Bang On Balls: Chronicles. We’ve been hard at work on the game for the last four years and so we’re extremely excited to finally bring it to Xbox on October 5th, 2023.
