Little Nightmares 3 Announced For 2024 Release, Developed By Until Dawn Studio
Little Nightmares II was released in 2021 and we were impressed by its clever puzzles, haunting environment, and overall atmosphere. Fans of the critically acclaimed first two games can now look forward to something exciting two-and-ahalf years after the release of their last mainline game. Bandai Namco announced today that Supermassive Games, the developer of Until Dawn, is working on a Little Nightmares entry. In addition, we also received our first look of Little Nightmares III.
Little Nightmares III follows the adventures of Low and Alone. The two are trapped inside The Spiral which is an area of frightening places. The children must team up to overcome a danger lurking behind the darkness. Little Nightmares III can be played as single player with an AI-controlled companion, or online with friends.
The Necropolis is a barren desert biome that has limited visibility. Coralie Feniello from the producer Coralie Feniello described it as “a city with eternal energy, and death is certain.” It is clear that this place lacks any hope and vibrant life due to the absence of music. Low and Hope scale the ladder of a high structure to get into what seems to be an underground tomb. Alone holds a wrench and Low, a slingshot. These weapons are both able to be used in different ways.
Low and Alone have to collaborate in order for them both to be able solve the puzzles. In one instance, Alone must rotate a mechanism to extend a bridge while Low runs across and shoots the counterweight with his bow to lock the bridge in place. In a cooperative game, the two characters can communicate by calling out to each other and gesturing.
As the two continue scaling, they find a crow that holds a key. Low uses his bow to shoot the key from the crow’s mouth. The two then carry the key forward, reaching the next section of the Necropolis. They continue on and a gigantic hand spreads out across the room. The statue appears as a still image, but it comes alive and is revealed to be connected to a gigantic creature. The creature in question is called Monster Baby and it’s one of Little Nightmares III Residents. They continue on, almost avoiding Monster Baby. Finally they reach a room in which the giant stares through the hole of the wall. It seems that Monster Baby has a stone-like gaze. Therefore, the two kids would do well to avoid being caught by the terrifying view.
After the gameplay demo, you will be taken to Necropolis’ dimly-lit catacombs. Monster Baby continues to cause havoc by punching walls. Low and Alone are able to return into the city once they have solved puzzles with large scarabs. After avoiding Monster Baby in the surface areas of the town, Low and Alone continue their battle. But at the very end of this demo it seems that they have failed, because the giant hands is ready to capture them.
The Sounds of Nightmares is a six part podcast exploring the Little Nightmares lore. The first two episodes will be released soon. Little Nightmares III will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S (PS5), PlayStation 4, Xbox One (PS4), Switch and PC by 2024.
