Destiny 2’s ‘State of the Game’ highlights 18 new changes
On Thursday, Bungie dropped a massive “State of the Game” post for Destiny 2, a sequel to the popular Destiny 1.. Written by game director Joe Blackburn, the post is mostly a preview of Bungie’s upcoming Destiny 2The Showcase will be a full debut The final shapeExpansion on 22nd August
Even though it is only a teaser article, there are a number of specific details in the piece about what changes will be coming. Destiny 2, a sequel to the popular Destiny 1. Over the next 12 months. And the post is very long, so we’ve taken the liberty of summarizing the most important info below.
The majority of the changes will be implemented in season 22 which begins after Showcase on August 22, 2018. Some changes won’t appear in-game until season 23 (late 2023), Final FormExpected early in 2024, or later
General
- The Final Form’s main area will include a new bounty replacement tentatively called “Pathfinder.” Bungie hasn’t revealed any information on it yet outside of its existence and that it’s potentially coming to the rest of the game after The Final Form.
- The Season 22 update will feature three new Strand Aspects – one for every class. Each class will receive a new Strand Aspect. Hunters get Whirling Miasmo, Titans get Banner of War and Warlocks get Weavewalk.
- Bungie is no longer releasing an armor themed by a particular playlist alongside each expansion. A new ritual armor will, however, be released. The final form.
- Players can now favorite 100 Shaders, Ornaments, or Emotes. This will help them move to the top of the ever growing list of in-game options.
- Season 22 will make it easier for players to obtain all Stasis Aspects, Fragments and Lights. This will work with a system similar to that of Ikora.
- In 2019, some existing weapons will be subdivided into new families. The final form.
- Contrary Lightfall, The final form (and its raid, apparently) will offer a conclusion to the Light and Darkness Saga’s story.
- Bungie won’t be raising the power cap in Season 22.
- Bungie made a promise to change the progression system for The Final FormThis will reduce the friction between new players.
PvP
- The new Vex Network map, Multiplex, is coming to the game in Season 22 — but don’t expect new maps to come to the game very often, as they take development resources away from story missions and Exotic quests
- Bungie will debut two new PvP modes — Checkmate and Relic — in its Crucible Labs test environment next season. Checkmate focuses on primary weapons rather than abilities or special weapons. Relic allows players to control some of the weapons they have used in raids or other activities. For example, the Season of the Haunted Scythe and the Season of the Risen Synaptic Spear from Vault of Glass.
- Citadel Map from Destiny 2: ForsakenReturning in Season 23, but reworked with modern sensibilities
- New armor sets are coming to Trials of Osiris in Season 22. Titan armor has a bear theme
Vanguard
- Vanguard Medals — essentially just an elaborate scoring system for Strikes, as debuted in Guardian Games — are coming to the game as a permanent feature in Season 22
- Nightfall Seasons 22-23 will feature more Battlegrounds.
Gambit
- Gambit isn’t as popular as other parts of the game, so the studio doesn’t want to devote too many resources to it. Gambit will not be reworked again.
- WhenThe final shapeGambit will bring back the Cathedral of Scars, an old map from the first era of this game.
- Bungie is adding the Shadow Legion as well as Lucent Hive to their list of possible enemy combatants. The Final Form
Bungie reiterated its statements on cheating, and said it would continue to sue those caught.
