Marvel’s Avengers Development Ending – Game Informer
Crystal Dynamics’ development team has officially announced the end to development on its live-service Marvel’s Avengers video game. Two and a quarter years have passed since the launch of Marvel’s Avengers Fall 2020. In that time, the Marvel’s Avengers development team released 12 playable heroes (including the PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man), a full expansion set in Wakanda, multiple character-focused Operations, and several smaller pieces of content.
Marvel’s Avengers had the last new content with the November 30th, 2022 update to version 2.7. This updated added Winter Soldier and Cloning Lab Omega Level Threat. Crystal Dynamics plans to release version 2.8 of their final title update on March 31, 2023. The update won’t add new content, including no cosmetics. This update will only provide final balance updates to the marketplace and close off cosmetics.
After this update is available, credit will cease to be able to be purchased and any remaining credits from players’ accounts can be converted into in-game resources, such as units and fragments. Upgrade modules, polychoron and DNA keys. All the game’s challenge cards, marketplaces, and cosmetics will now be free for all. Players will receive all takedowns/emotes, outfits, nameplates and other items from these sources starting March 31.
On September 30, Marvel’s Avengers will cease all official support. Single-player and multi-player will be available for play, although Crystal Dynamics won’t address any other issues. It will be removed from all digital stores. Marvel’s Avengers was met with mixed reviews upon launch. Many praised the single-player experience. However, it was the repetitive multiplayer modes, abundant microtransactions, and the development team’s slow implementation of new content that soured many fans on the title.
