We Didn’t Quit Our Jobs to Make Children of Silentown

Hi! Hi! Silentown for Children, I’m here today to tell the tale of how this idea evolved into today’s game – as a full-fledged title by a small group of people in their off-hours from their full-time software development  and YouTube content creation jobs. The original animated film was created by Elf Games, Francesca of Luna2 Studio and me. Silentown for ChildrenInteractive media. It is evident that the team has a passion for the project. They have worked slowly, but surely over the years. You can hear the entire team in the Making Of video. Jack the punk cannot wait to share his experience with all of you! Piero, the programmer of the team, shares that “we at Elf Games used four years of our free time to make Silentown for Children. You will be amazed at the beautiful, point-and click adventure game. This game is a proud accomplishment. But we are not full-time developers: Elf Games instead develops video games after business hours, as their members are already busy with their software development company.”

Silentown for Children is certainly a point-and-click adventure, however the team wouldn’t say it’s a conventional one. The traditional point-andclicks focus on finding and combing items at the correct time. These elements were taken by Elf Games, however they also incorporated elements from classic adventure games. Elf Games took, for instance, inspiration from OneShotAnd Bird StoryYou will notice the new camera view, which allows you to explore more and some areas have a quest-like structure. Additionally, song-based mechanics are used in the game to link to the story. The player can unlock situations and solve puzzles by using songs. The songs are linked to minigames that provide variety.

How it works in a short summarySilentown ChildrenIt all came down to this: Francesca (known as Fraffrog) showed Piero and Fabiola a short original movie that she had created for her YouTube channel, but which was never released. It was perfect for a game, she told them.

Silentown for ChildrenThe game centers on Lucy, who is living in a place inhabited by monsters. The team attempted to make a simple story work on multiple levels. To help players understand the origins of the forest and town, they wanted to make sure that every piece could add to their story.

“Video games are a strong passion in which we feel we can bring together our skills and creativity. The past four years have been spent creating the project, mostly in our spare moments, on weekends. Development has been steady, though slow. It is not easy to dedicate yourself to such a long project, but we really believed we could make it real”, Francesca recollects.

That’s how it all started. Like many other projects, it was originally intended to be a simple and small project. Things changed quickly. It was a quick demo that we released, which was very well received. We decided to go ahead and make the larger project a reality, so the whole story could be told.

Therefore, it makes perfect sense for the advancement of Silentown for ChildrenIt would be unusual as it was originally designed. Our vision has been realized by the team who worked hard to make the game bigger than what we had originally planned. Today, many people have more than one job or hobby. This is what the game with Silentown ChildrenIt is a joy to be able to share this with you all. We hope that you see how much it was a labor-of-love and that you enjoy it as much, as we did.
