Final Fantasy 1-6 Pixel Remasters come to Nintendo Switch, PS4 in 2023

Square Enix has announced that the first six Final Fantasy games will be remastered retro-pixelated on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 starting in spring 2023. Square Enix announced Sunday that the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series features redone 2D pixels graphics, updated soundtracks and modernized user interface, as well as additional extras such as a bestiary and illustration gallery and a music player.

The sextet of games — Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy 2, Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 4., Final Fantasy 5Please see the following: Final Fantasy 6 — will be released digitally on Switch and PS4. Pixel Remasters can be downloaded on Android, iOS and Windows PC via Steam. Square Enix is yet to announce versions for Xbox platforms.

Square Enix has released a press release stating that the publisher also sells a physical Anniversary Edition Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster game.

Square Enix launched the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series over several months, beginning in summer 2021. The remasters were generally well-received — with the exception of some font-based criticism — by fans of the classic role-playing game series.

Final Fantasy just celebrated its 35th Birthday on Sunday. This is the first title in the series. Final Fantasy, was released in Japan for Nintendo’s Famicom system on Dec. 18, 1987.
