Deep Rock Galactic Season 03: Plaguefall Infects Xbox

Season 03: Plaguefall was just released and is very different to what we did with previous Seasons or updates. Season 01 introduced a new robot rival faction. Season 02 continued that theme. It’s been almost year of robots in the game now, so this time around we wanted to do shake things up a bit!

Lithophage Rockpox

Season 03 introduces the Lithophage Rockpox, a plague-like infection that attacks any rock formations it encounters — those of you who play the game know how much it’s about rocks and how much they matter. Press the right thumbstick to cry out “Rock and Stone!”, the rallying cry for those of us who have chosen to join the ranks of Deep Rock Galactic.

Rockpox is a novel element we introduced to the game. This new feature could show up at any time and anywhere. A meteor carrying Rockpox could crash into the cave during an ongoing mission. It’ll be up to you to call down Rock Cracker modules from the orbital Space Rig, and destroy the meteor and thereby expose the valuable Plague Hearts within. Turning in those Plague Hearts lets you progress in the Performance Pass (DRG’s free Battle Pass).

You can also find Lithophage Outbreaks – full-on Rockpox infestations where you’ll encounter infected, hyper-aggressive enemies, and run the risk of getting infected yourself!  This mission objective involves cleaning up infected rocks.

Cleansing Game

We also wanted the Rockpox to be a new gameplay experience, so you’ll deal with it using industrial cleaning tools that you call down from orbit when you encounter an infected area. DRG was designed to encourage co-op gameplay. You can clean the Rockpox with the LithoFoamer by using a thick coating of LithoFoam and then using the LithoVac to vacuum up any remaining dirt.

BOSCO, a friendly robot that assists you in mining and dealing with dangers, is available to you while you play solo single player missions. For the Rockpox, BOSCO helps you by vacuuming areas you have foamed, so you’ll not have to switch cleaning tools or do all the hard work yourself.

Rockpox cleaners were able to feel at ease in Deep Rock Galactic. Cleaning out the Rockpox ensures a safe(r) work environment for you and your fellow Miners – and of course comes with additional compensation.

New Grenades

Seasons 01 & 02 saw the introduction of new Secondary and Primary weapons. We knew we had to explore new grenade designs as soon as we could. Season 03 was just such an opportunity – though we ended up stretching the definition of what exactly entails a “grenade” quite liberally.

DRG has four character classes: Driller, Engineer, Gunner, and Scout – and each class gets a new grenade with Season 03. Spring Loaded Ripper is the Driller’s set of circular saw blades that travel in the same direction as you are throwing it. So, if you’re in a tunnel, you might quickly find that it spins around the walls and ceiling, eventually making its way back to you if you aren’t careful. The Engineer receives the Shredder Swarm. This is a collection of drones that were repurposed from the Rival faction in Season 01 and 02 respectively. The Gunner gets the Tactical Leadburster – once thrown, it sticks to the surface, and then proceeds to spray bullets in a 360-degree radius. The Scout also receives the Voltaic Stun Sweeper. This is an electrical boomerang that bounces between enemies and stuns them.

Select the best class for your job. As the Gunner, you can kill enemies, as well as scout out and illuminate caves with the Scout. Or, as an Engineer, the Engineer supports the team by constructing defensive structures and turrets.

*** Fully Destructible Environments ***
You must take down everything to achieve your goal. You can accomplish your mission on your own terms. There’s no right or wrong way. Drill straight down to your objective or build an intricate network of paths to explore your surroundings — the choice is yours. But proceed with caution, you don’t want to stumble into an alien swarm unprepared!

*** Procedurally Generated Cave Network ***
You will discover a variety of caves that have been procedurally created. There are many enemies you can fight, and rich treasures to be found. There’s always something new to discover and no two playthroughs are alike.

*** High-Tech Gadgets and Weapons ***
Dwarves have a list of what items they must bring in order to complete their tasks. This means the most powerful weapons and the most advanced gadgets around – flamethrowers, gatling guns, portable platform launchers, and much, much more.

*** Light Your Path ***
These underground caverns are filled with terrors and darkness. These dark underground caverns will require you to use your own lighting equipment.
