Preview cards for Disney Lorcana, the Mouse’s answer to Magic, Pokémon

You get the first card. Disney LorcanaRavensburger’s ambitious trading card game, ‘, was today introduced at Anaheim’s D23 Convention. They include seven characters from across Disney’s nearly 100-year history of pop culture dominance — as well as one card of Mickey Mouse himself exclusive to the convention.

The official name of the first card set, which will be released in 2023’s fall, is also known. Disney Lorcana: Chapter 1. Polygon has been told by designers that the players will play the role of the illumineers. They bring to life classic Disney characters and bring them to life to battle at the table. Each debut card includes the name and cost of the character and statistics, as well defense and offense stats. Additionally, every card contains a unique power or mechanic as well as some Disney-inspired flavor text. The card’s relative value or power is indicated by a mysterious icon at the bottom of each one. Its usage will be made clear once the game’s rules are known.

Disney LorcanaRavensburger is a game publisher that has been publishing games since 139 years. This bold move was the result of a first-ever title. Filip Francke (Ravensburger North America CEO) spoke on behalf of the House of the Mouse about the major-picture consequences of the Partnership.

“This [game] is probably the largest potential that Ravensburger has ever gone after,” Francke says, “and hence also probably the largest investment that we have ever done into any type of project and initiative.”

“We know that as you enter the TCG market, that you’re inviting the players for a many-year journey,” Francke continued. “We don’t take that lightly. This is a multiyear effort. [of releases]. It’s something that Disney has never really allowed any [collaborator] to do. We have built trust with Disney. […] I think allowed us to come to a point where we both strategically, commercially had the trust to say, ‘Yeah, let’s dare to do this together.’”

First seven cards are Cruella De Vil and Elsa.

A collector’s card — available only to D23 members who attend this year’s convention — features Mickey Mouse himself, wearing the garb of the Brave Little Tailor, harkening back to the classic animated short that debuted in 1938.

Ravensburger calls on heavyweight talent Ravensburger to help him create these key cards. Simangaliso Sibaya (Luis Huerta), Nicholas Kole and John Loren were among them.

Polygon is told by developers that this special features characters and capabilities D23 Expo Collector’s SetAdditionally, they will appear in Disney Lorcana: Chapter 1. The D23 Expo Collector’s SetCards will be given a special foil treatment. Cards will be marked with 1 and D23 Expo.^{It is possible to}These are the edition symbols.
