Microsoft Flight Simulator Introduces the Carenado PC12 into the Marketplace Today
The Pilatus Aircraft team has created a versatile new plane.

The Carenado PC12 is a single-engine, low-wing, multi-mission utility aircraft from Switzerland’s Pilatus Aircraft that is crewed by one or two and can seat up to nine passengers. Pilatus initiated the Carenado PC12 program in late 1980s. They were primarily interested in creating a long-range transport aircraft capable of carrying a large number of passengers. In 1994, it was extended to a wider range of service and took its maiden flight on May 31, 1991. It is the best-selling aircraft of its single-engine turbine-powered type, with more than 1 700 aircraft.
Carenado PC12 proved to be remarkably versatile. Although it is not an STOL aircraft (short take off and landing), the PC12 can be operated from a short field or older airports. The aircraft can fly within 2600 feet of a runway. To land, it requires 2,200 feet. This aircraft is widely used for military, health care and law enforcement purposes. The U.S. Air Force version, called the U-28A “Draco,” is a multi-role special operations craft that leverages the airframe’s power, long loiter time, ruggedness, and proven reliability to perform intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance gathering, communications hub, command and control, and general support missions.
Carenado PC12 is 47 feet 3 inches long, with a wingspan 53 feet 5 inches and a T tail empennage. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-67P turboprop engine that delivers up to 1,200 horsepower to a Hartzell 5-blade, constant-speed, reversible propeller. You can fly it up to 2,120 mph, at a cruising speed 328 miles an hour. It climbs up to 1,900 feet per second, reaching a maximum height of 30,000 feet.

• Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet: Our first military jet and a highly requested feature from the community. We will be releasing the Top Gun: Maverick movie with an expansion, but we want simmers to experience the thrill of speed on this holiday.
• VoloCity: We partnered with well-known German company Volocopter, which is working on an eVTOL called “VoloCity”, a vision for an urban air taxi. To create an accurate replica of the aircraft prototype for the simulator, we worked closely with Volocopter’s engineering team. This aircraft is the first to be capable of precise landings. It is also a preview of what we will launch in the simulator in 2022.
• Pilatus PC-6 Porter: This legendary short takeoff and landing (STOL) utility aircraft is a highly versatile plane from Switzerland and comes with several cockpits, cabins, and landing gear variations. This aircraft is the product of close cooperation with the manufacturer. The development effort by Hans Hartmann (developer) and Alexander Metzger (developer) resulted into a unique and enjoyable new aircraft that has exceptional capabilities in the simulator.
• CubCrafters NX Cub: Yakima-based CubCrafters recently introduced a nosewheel option for their flagship CC-19 XCub Aircraft, popularly called the NX Cub, which we are pleased to introduce to the flight sim audience to further enhance our bush flying and off airport options.
• Aviat Pitts Special S1S: One of our most popular planes gets a single-seat option with the release of this aircraft.

New Missions-Based on the success of Discovery Flights we have added six additional locations to the series (Helsinki and Freiburg im Breisgau), Mecca, Monument Valleys, Singapore and Mount Cook).
New Tutorials – To further expand the onboarding experience, we are adding 14 new tutorials, introducing simmers to Bush flying (in an Icon A5) and IFR (in a Cessna 172).
New Features – We are also pleased to introduce several highly requested features by the community: an updated weather system, early access to DX12, and a dev mode replay system.
New Photogrammetry Cities – As part of our ongoing collaboration with Bing Maps, we are pleased to add a number of new photogrammetry cities: Helsinki (Finland), Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), Brighton, Derby, Eastbourne, Newcastle, and Nottingham (UK) and Utrecht (Netherlands).
