Minecraft NFTs and blockchain are, well, blocked, Mojang says
The use of NFTs or blockchain technology is not encouraged in the area. Minecraft, developer Mojang said Wednesday, in a statement that outlined the developer’s stance on how users can and (for the most part) cannot use their game. Mojang raised numerous concerns about NFTs, and the use of their game. MinecraftTo create them and to distribute them. This includes security concerns and setting a precedent for haves and nots. On the official Minecraft website, Mojang addressed players and creators “actively involved in the buying, selling, or trading of NFTs that make use of Minecraft (like skins or worlds)” to explain its stance on blockchain and NFTs in its game. The developer’s message was clear: “[B]Our client and server software applications cannot integrate lockchain technologies. Minecraft in-game content such as worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods, be utilized by blockchain technology to create a scarce digital asset.”
Developer points out that third-party businesses are trying to use the technology already. MinecraftNFTs can be created and distributed by direct or indirect purchases, or through earning them from the game. That’s a non-starter for Mojang, which says third-party NFTs “may not be reliable and may end up costing players who buy them.” The developer cited fraudulent sales and artificially inflated prices of the digital goods, and says rarity or exclusivity in MinecraftIt is contrary to the inclusive spirit of its organization.

[To]Minecraft players will enjoy a safe, inclusive environment Blockchain technologies cannot be used in our Minecraft client or server apps, nor can they be used to create NFTs with in-game content such as worlds, skins and persona items.. Also, we’ll be watching closely how the blockchain technology changes over time. This will help us determine whether or not it allows for safer gaming and more inclusive and practical applications. But, right now we don’t plan on implementing blockchain technology to Minecraft.
Amusingly, Twitter users’ immediate, vocal response to Mojang’s stance on NFTsIt was terrifying. Users who haven’t thoroughly read through the company’s statement expressed worry that official Minecraft NFTs were coming, and as they take in the full statement, they’re publicly breathing a sigh of relief that at least for now, Mojang has no such plans.
