Elden Ring: Unused Files Point To An In-Game Bestiary Possibly Cut

Elden Ring, in both its actual setting and the size/scope of it’s action RPG, is huge. After only a month of being out, Elden Ring players continue discovering new secrets. It is likely that these discoveries will keep going for many months, even years.

One player JesterPatchesYesterday, a well-known For Software gamer posted to Twitter that icons that were not in Elden Ring had been found. However, they are still within the game’s files. This led them to a possible bestiary. Eurogamer. If this was similar to bestiaries found in other games, it would be an encyclopedia listing all the enemies and creatures of Elden Ring.

As you can see in JesterPatches’ tweet above, they uncovered 128 icons showing different NPCs in Elden Ring. There are two icons for every NPC, one greyed and one filled (perhaps because they weren’t found in-game, but later, when the bestiary discovered them). The icons range from birds and soldiers, demi-humans, Godskins and many more.

We’ll likely never know if a bestiary was planned for Elden Ring, but these unearthed icons certainly seem to point to one existing at some point in the game’s development. Or, perhaps it’s something From Software is planning to add after the fact. The update to Elden Ring included additional NPC questlines, and many other improvements.
