MLB The Show 22 gets 2v2, 3v3 cooperative multiplayer for first time

MLB The Show 22 Online multiplayer will be offered for the first time in series. It allows friends to compete and cooperate online.

Friend 1 might pitch. Friend 2 may play middle infield, and/or Friend 3. Friend 3 can take right field. And then all three can hit, assuming they’re playing Diamond Dynasty (where there is no designated hitter). MLB The Show 22’s co-op multiplayer will let two or three buds combine their Diamond Dynasty collections to form a super-super (or super-super-super) team.

This means three players could use their Road to the Show stardom together. MLB The Show 21Last year, unified creators were created across RTTS (the most played game mode by a mile) and DD (the other). That, too, would be a first, and a modest step closer to something I’ve long wanted to see — players participating in one another’s careers, MMO-style.

Please note that for MLB The Show 22This only applies to one-off multiplayer against human competitors. PlayStation Blog did not mention that PvE multiplayer could be supported (i.e. cooperative multiplayer). A PlayStation Blog post did not mention that cooperative multiplayer would support PvE games (i.e., two to three players against an AI opponent). Polygon reached out to the PlayStation representative for more information.

In other news, there will be a technical test lasting about one week — Feb. 17, beginning at 1 p.m. EST, until Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. EST — on all platforms. It includes PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as well Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

This technical test offers online matchmaking, cross platform play and online cooperative play. There’s no need to sign up for anything, just download the test client for free from your console’s online store beginning Feb. 16.

MLB The Show 22 Launches April 5th for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 as well as Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Those who pre-order the game’s Digital Deluxe or MVP Editions get access on April 1.
